Caribbean Entrepreneur-Me
How are you doing – with making decisions and setting boundaries based on your limits?π§π©π€π
I’ve had to reel myself in many times, allowing others to cross limits because my boundaries were not clearly defined upfront. However, though its easy to discuss, in practice it can be hard. π ββοΈππ
As a young woman entering the job market many moons ago, saw and experienced discomfort from bosses, customers and even peers. It seemed like a challenge between accepting behaviors that were uncomfortable and losing a job. That pressure was difficult to navigate, until speaking up and said no to conversations or actions that were unacceptable. Avoidance can only take you so far, and running away is never an option – though did that, on a few occasions.πββοΈπ€·ββοΈπ
As an entrepreneur and a leader, navigating uncomfortable situations and people is a skill one needs to develop. The world of business does not adhere to boundaries on professional expected behaviors. On the contrary it seems that power and status can be used to intimidate and coerce if vulnerabilities are noted. Sometimes you have to call out or walk away from people, and that is a decision only you get to makeπΆββοΈππ€πββοΈ.
Remember, if you allow something – its condoned and manifests in future dealings. On the flip side, when you clearly state what you will not allow, your boundaries and limits set a standard that carries forward in the business relationship.π§±πππββοΈ
Whether you work for others or yourself, setting boundaries and communicating it – is going to be one of the most important decisions you make in business relationshipπ₯π§π©π³.
