Caribbean Entrepreneur-Me
One of the biggest lessons learnt in business life has been the value of time. ‘Time waits on no man’ is part of an old proverb and its essence is how elusive time lost can be!π§πββοΈ
When I started in business many moons agoπ€ there were days when I was very busy, but many more where time seemed to drag on, especially those days seeking financing. As doors were closed opportunities opened, but the pull for time and priorities, created anxiety, fear, and resilience. There is a sense of urgency that comes when funds are low, bills have to be paid, food and child care need funding, and goods are on the way. πππ°π€¦ββοΈ
Learning how to focus, and manage time effectively has to be intentional, but as a newbie at working for myself it was easy to say – yes I’m available, ok I will go and do this for you, and the list goes on. At crunch time, it seemed as though time was lost, not creating value for remuneration – does this sound familiar? Then there were broken appointments and promises which made me both friend and enemy to self and others. πβπ
With Entrepreneurship there can be an initial struggle with accountability, boundaries and structure – its best to get those in place from early on this journey. πβπ
As I mentor/ coach/ and work with entrepreneurs and business people to achieve their commercial goals, a major hurdle is accountability for value with timeπ₯. Don’t accept excuses from yourself when you lose time. Keep focused, and ask yourself daily – how much value did I add to my business today? Write/ log your response, and evaluate weekly.πββΊ
Good habits are forged in accountable actions.πββοΈβ
