Listen – Word Of The Day

Listening is an art, and a purposeful action on someone else. While hearing means sounds are noted, listening is that intentional act of ‘paying attention’.

There are different types of listening – appreciative listening done for enjoyment, and can be music, spoken words, motivational speakers and the like; comprehensive listening when the focus is on purposeful information on news events, lectures, and anything where you want to come away with knowledge and insights for use or understanding; empathic listening when the concern for others and their perspective or feelings is needed, or supportive responses required; and critical listening when evaluations, comparisons and analysis of information presented for decision making.
