Caribbean Entrepreneur-Me
Are your talents being used by your organization and yourself?
This pandemic has certainly proven that where you are is temporary. As organizations review the skills needed to run operations lean, and efficiently during these times, where do you fit in?
One of my lifelong mantras has been, “focus on where you want to be”. I try never to get too comfortable in a space because ‘comfort can stunt growth’. The imaginary goal post was often visited and moved allowing continuous development of my personal and professional skills. That imaginary goalpost is real for organizations and should be real for you. This pandemic and the uncertainty it presents is just a shifting of that goalpost, and its time to evaluate your focus and where you want to be. Crisis can bring out that instinctive survival determination, hidden by comfort.
McKinsey’s Hancock & Schaninger advises some key areas of reskilling which we should consider for post Covid19 are IT, sales, supply chain, procurement and marketing. This is quite interesting as these areas can be operated by employees remotely, keeping operations going through these uncertain times.
It’s time to tap into your talent skillset and show what you can do; identify core areas you can fill and upskill as needed. Companies can only keep those with the talent and skill needed during and after this pandemic.
Keep your focus on your goal, be talent ready for your next opportunity. Focus on where you want to be, because where you are is temporary.

It’s true. what I have now is temporary. But what skills I have created or earned today will built my future. Every crisis comes with an opportunity and one has to see this wisely and be ready to act once the crisis is settled down.
